Fissure sealant
Sealing the grooves on the biting surface of a new back tooth so food cannot pack into them.
What it is
The biting surface of a new molar has grooves too narrow for a toothbrush bristle to reach. A sealant fills them so food cannot pack in.
It is the least invasive thing in this list and one of the more useful, and it is done on a child who has never had an injection and does not need one for this.
Questions about this treatment
Does it replace brushing?
No. It protects the grooves on the top of the tooth, which is where most decay starts at this age. The sides still need a brush.
