Composite bonding

Adding filling material to the edge of a tooth to rebuild a chip or close a small gap.

What it is

Composite is the same material as a white filling, added to the outside of a tooth rather than inside it. The surface is roughened, the material is built up in layers, and it is shaped and polished at the same appointment.

Nothing healthy is removed, which is the reason to do this before considering anything more permanent.

Questions about this treatment

How long does it last?

Several years on most teeth, less if you bite your nails or grind. It can be repaired rather than replaced.
